Copaiba oil. An oil I have discovered since I joined Young Living.....this oil has truly changed my life. This oil is one of life's diamond's in the rough. It is in upper tiers helpfulness like Lavender, Peppermint, Lemon....yet very few people have ever heard of it. Myself included.
Copaiba oil comes from a group of trees in the genus Copaifera that grow in the Amazon Rainforest. The resin is tapped straight from the tree and is commonly used in varnishes and lacquers. But the natives have been using it medicinally for four centuries. When the resin is steam distilled it creates an amazingly powerful and beneficial essential oil. SO beneficial in fact, in Brazil, it is prescribed by doctors for Bronchitis and other lung infections. It's potential uses are seemingly never ending: -Anti-inflammatory, extremely so -Antiseptic -Expectorant -Diuretic -Astringent -Anti-tetanus -Antihemorrahagic Just to name a few. It is also a magnifier oil. This means when added to an essential oil blend it will magnify benefits of the other oils. Which is why it is an ingredient in nearly essential oil blend promoted by Young Living. You can also take it internally to replace ibuprofen. Yes, you heard that right...REPLACE a toxic chemical sold over the counter. We have become so dependant on anything sold on the shelf. We assume because someone, somewhere deemed any number of things 'safe' that it must be. Unfortunately, we are finding that this is not the case. While there are truly some medications that MUST be taken, I absolutely do not recommend replacing said medications without the knowledge of a doctor or equivalent.....many, many essential oils can replace alot of health supplements and medications. But do your research, work with your doctor. Over the last couple of weeks, I have experienced first hand how beneficial this oil truly is. My body of course is not what used to be. I was a dancer for fifteeen years, I have a very labor intensive job I've been at for close to fifteen years....I'm 35 and I have advanced arthritis in my lower back. When I come home, I ache. Some days worse than others of course....but some days, I have to spend my off days mostly in bed. Now I'm an active chick....I like going out, being out in nature, shopping, amusement parks.... Never will I have to worry again. Because of this oil. And let me tell you, I add this baby to EVERYTHING. I add it to my allergy pill(lemon, lavender, peppermint....another post ;-)), another blend called Morphine bomb for pain relief, I've even taken it alone. Please leave any questions, comments, concerns, in the comments. If you have any questions about Young Living oils please feel free to comment as well! I love them! I am more than happy to talk about them and get you started on your oily journey too! Have a great day everyone! Happy creating! -Trish www.youngliving.org/pldominice So I have this fabulous girl friend that tries out all my fab beauty creations(I don't hand out the bad ones!).
This one...BY FAR...has had the best results. How do I measure that? Her husband used it. And liked it. *fist pump* My first body butter recipe, posted on the blog, was one of her faves but if the husband uses it...it's the best as far as I'm concerned. I followed this recipe exactly so I'll just post the link. http://www.popsugar.com/beauty/Firming-Body-Scrub-30229190?ref=29049936 I can't wait to play around with the recipe for the next batch! Maybe some essential oils this time...different soap base.... Anywho, as always ENJOY and happy creating! -Trish Y'all this is the holy grail of body washes!
I have been searching and searching for a recipe to make a fluffy, creamy body wash that didn't require chemicals, equipment I didn't have, and more importantly, a chance to blow the house up. Trust me...I would find a way. But enough about that.... So far, this is my favorite body wash/soap I've made since I started on natural body care journey. Here's the recipe I found on Pintrest that made me giggle with excitement...until I saw the shortening part. http://www.savynaturalista.com/2013/10/03/cream-soap-diy/ Shortening?? As in the stuff you bake with? Um, no. SO, I altered it a tad. For my body wash I used: -Coconut oil -Apricot oil(You don't have to add this. Any carrier oil will work) -Castille soap, liquid or bar. Bar you will have to melt down *Essential oils of choice I used the same measurements for the coconut oil. I substituted the shortening with the carrier oil but I did not do 2 cups. Although by all means, if you want to try it, I'm sure it's fine. I just used 1 C. This recipe starts off pretty much the same way as my body butter so feel free to sneak over there and check it out. Once the oils are all whipped together, this recipe merges with the original again! I slowly poured the soap into the whip with the mixer on. I used liquid soap, by the way, I believe it about 1 cup also. And Voila! I promise you'll fall in love with this like I did! Enjoy and let me know what you think! Have a great day and create things! -Trish Something I woke with one morning and I had to get it out of my head. In case, you know, other people feel this way too!
Life is a funny thing. We are beings on a planet…stringing moments together. Memories, days, weeks, months, years. Sucesses, failures, we know what each and every one of these things are. When you say you want to create a life for yourself, build a life for yourself, or just create a life. These all mean many different things to many different people. You don͛t need a nail and hammer to build a life…but you do to physically build other things. Strange right? How about creating a life? Means anything from making a baby to making your life have meaning somehow as opposed to following rules or feeling complacent. But a lot of this comes down to rules. Everything we do, follow, believe are a set of rules that someone somewhere set forth in some place in time. Whether its social norms or laws of the place you live. It͛s all kind of strange when you think about it. All of these rules change depending on where you go in the world. What͛s allowed in one place, is frowned upon somewhere else. Or vice versa…what you do is looked at as strange. Maybe that feels freeing….maybe confining. What does it mean to have a life? It͛s different to everyone. For instance, do I have a life? I don͛t think so. But I am alive, living day to day; I work, I have a friends and family and for the time being I have no drama. But is that life? That͛s not an easy one to answer is it? It͛s all a point of view. Some would say that you have your health, a job, a roof over your head and people that love you….that͛s life. Others might see me metaphorically treading water, as I do, and say I don͛t have a life. Why would someone wake up to get to ready for work and start typing this out? Most people would probably ignore this in their heads and get on with their day. Some people would do what I do, write it down and get it out. Others….who knows. Maybe they would be terrified by the thought of thinking this deeply about what life is. I͛ve always been this way. I fascinated by just about everything in life. How funny a word sounds, different cultures no matter how different or barbaric to my own, what people do, say, how they act, how they act one way and say another. Why does the body allow you to do that? Most things in the human body are absolutes, otherwise you die. I suppose we͛re getting into a conversation about free will here, so I͛ll leave that alone. But I love people watching…I find it interesting how we all can have the same emotion, the same way to get something done but how we do it, how we feel it, and/or what we do about it….we all do it differently. Ever think about that? Welcome to my life. I͛ve been called weird my whole life. As a child, it hurt my feelings somewhat. But I͛ve learned to embrace it as an adult. I have found many people near and dear to my heart that share my weirdness. In fact, I͛ve come to a point in my life where people that aren͛t deemed ͚weird͛ are the weird ones! People that follow the straight and narrow or let social norms dictate their lives….I think they are weird. Maybe they are the ones that have no life? Obviously, we could debate that all day, again…another conversation for another day. It͛s hard to step out on your own and not follow the rules that society tells you to follow…..House MD called them the circle people. But I think I͛ve been able to do this because my family never boxed anyone in to a perfect mold so to speak. You are who you are….and you need to figure out what or who that is. And it may make it harder to be in this world….and that͛s ok. You͛ll figure it out. Until next time! Stay safe and create things! I have a great whipped body wash recipe I want to post(totally in love!) and a scrub bar recipe too! -Trish Have you seen the meme on Facebook where it says Adele's song, Hello, makes you miss people you don't even know?
That's my way of re-breaking the ice. I apologize for completely disappearing on everyone. It's been a super rough year. And I don't think I realized how much until the holidays rolled around. You see, I lost two very important people to me, my grandmother and a very close friend. And only 6 weeks apart, one only 2 days before my birthday. Its always rough when that happens, but I think I thought I was dealing with it properly. Negative, Negative....situation normal!(Star Wars humor there....yes, I am one of them.) Not to mention the weird rift between me and my 3 best girls. Not bad, just unfamiliar. So its left me feeling pretty alone. SO, just like millions of other people, I'm going to be turning over a new leaf as the new descends upon us. It's time. I'm going to start using this blog for all kinds of things now t help keep myself on track. Its the ADHD....which I also discovered I've had all these years. Like I said, its been a rough year. One thing I've never mentioned on this blog, at least I don't think I have, is that I'm a certified fitness trainer. I studied hard over the summer, to finally do something with my life(one of those running away things....or a super family member is gone and I feel like I let them down things). I love fitness....I really do. But I struggle, just like everyone else, to keep up with it. I love how food is a symbiotic relationship....its all so fascinating to me. So, I will be hopping on that wagon again and blogging my research, results, all that good stuff about that. I have NOT abandoned making own my stuff! Although I haven't been creating things on a daily basis like I was before, I am still using what I had already discovered worked! Such as my super amazing body moisturizer....I'm telling you, its the holy grail....I have friends that think so too! (wink, wink). I have a sore muscle bar that I created, one of the first things I created but never posted on here. One thing I had wanted to do is something that did what all these bars did but didn't have the smell. I hate the smell of tiger balm! Ever since I was a little girl, teenager(I danced for 15 years)....it burns my skin and my nose hairs. So I wanted something that got the job done, but with a more pleasant smell. I have a friend who des pilates regularly and my mother has fibromyalgia.....they both love it! I'll post that recipe soon! I have also made a soap....I'm super in love with this thing. I found a recipe on Pintrest that I twisted around a little. You're going to love it too! So, I'm starting to get a little excited about turning a bad year into something better. In the same boat as me? Stick around, let's better ourselves and learn together! You can also follow me on Facebook: Patty Dominice and Twitter: @Dtrish_fit The next step in my quest to homesteading and becoming self reliant is making my own bread and butter of course! I will post the butter later but I had to had to get this bread up here! FYI, be kind, it was my first time....so it doesn't look very pretty, but it sure does taste yummy! And well, that's all I care about! ha!
Here's the recipe for the Honey Wheat Bread, just click the link! Here's how mine came out! PS - its a little time consuming the first time, but well worth it! So I had a hankering for pancakes this morning but I wasn't really feeling a big breakfast production. Nor was I wanting to dip into the family Krusteaz mix(no offense!) I knew I had an easy, relatively healthy pancake recipe somewhere. And there, on one of my bazillion Pinterest boards, it was...3 ingredient pancakes! Score! This is from Recipe by Photo - http://www.recipebyphoto.com/3-ingredient-pancakes/. Super easy to make and I dressed it up for a naughty breakfast treat because I had some cream cheese frosting I needed to get rid of....a single girls' gotta do what a single girls' gotta do. You will need: *2 eggs *1 ripe banana *Cinnamon(optional) *Vanilla extract(optional) **Chef's note: original recipe did not have vanilla extract, only optional cinnamon. Something about cinnamon, vanilla and bananas just sounded super yummy! Also, she does warn to take care when flipping because they are a bit flimsy, I found this to be true, but if you take her advice and make smaller ones it's a lot easier. i just broke up the banana and smashed it the best I can with a fork. I don't think it's super noticeable after they are cooked if there's little pieces in the batter. So I turned the stove on medium heat and lightly buttered the skillet. This is the size I made them. A little frosting melted and maple syrup over warm pancakes and voila! An easy, quick breakfast treat! As I've tried to start switching over to all natural products I make at home, one of the easiest and by far the most useful is the all purpose cleaner I made. Once again, I found this on Pintrest.....don't judge me.
Super simple to make...and I'm kind of embarrassed because this will be a bit of a puny post because of it, haha. I'm also really embarrassed because apparently I didn't save the pin I got the recipe from. If this is your post, let me know and I will give you credit! Here we go: For a 32OZ bottle: - 2 T Castille soap of choice, I used Baby Mild - 10-20 drops of Tree Oil (Melaleuca essential oil) - Fill the rest of the bottle with water I only had a 16OZ bottle so I cut it half and it still works amazing. How do I know this?? I knocked a bottle of wine onto my wood and tiled floor and not only is there no stain, there is no smell! #Winning hahaha Happy cleaning friends! -SFH So just the other day I was playing around in the kitchen with some new lotion recipes and smells when some ninja bug bit the crud out of me on my hand. I say ninja, because I didn't even see it...in fact, I thought it was an allergic reaction to a new ingredient or one of my new essential oils, but then I realized I had put the lotion on my face and my face was fine. As I clawed a hole into my skin I quickly realized some evildoer with giant eyes and wings did this. Grrr. Then a light bulb went off over my head...figuratively of course. One of my new essential oils was Frankincense and I read it was great with wound healing. I took a chance and dabbed it on straight from the bottle. I wish I had thought to take a picture (sorry guys, still learning)....within 15/20 minutes the intense itching was gone and the redness was significantly lessened! WOW. The wise men knew what they were doing... Once that whole dramatic scene was over and I canned up the new lotions and cleaned my mess up, I did more investigation as to what this miracle oil can do. And it truly is a miracle oil. Frankincense has so many uses, it is literally one of the most beneficial essential oils in the world. "Frankincense Oil is extracted from the gum or resin from Frankincense or Olibanum trees, whose scientific name is Boswellia Carteri. The main components of this essential oil are Alpha Pinene, Actanol, Bornyl Acetate, Linalool, Octyl Acetate, Incensole and Incensyl Acetate. Frankincense has been a popular ingredient in cosmetics and incense burners for centuries. It has even been found in the remains of ancient Egyptian and Anglo-Saxon civilizations. Furthermore, It is closely associated with religious traditions and rites, particularly in the Christian tradition." (Cited from Organic Facts) -Can be used for nasal and chest congestion -Pain relief from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis -Heal internal and external wounds by killing germs -A number of uses for oral health, such as preventing cavities, gum disease, and bad breath -Astrigent internally and externally -Great for symptoms of PMS and post menopause -Removes & prevents the buildup of gas in the intestines, helps with stomachaches, indegestion, etc. -Safe diuretic -Anti-aging skin properties -Wound healing -Builds up immune system And I'm sure there's something I'm missing, but you get the idea. I mean WOW again! I recently made a facial moisturizer and put in there. I was just starting THAT time of the month(sorry, I know it TMI) and I was starting to break out....and this almost never happens to me anymore, its very rare. And within the day they were signficantly less red and painful and in a couple days they were completely gone! If you are getting into making your own products of your own, I urge you to research this essential oil, you can put it into so many different products. AND if you have a therapeutic grade oil and it says it can be ingested, you can put a few drops into tea or water and get the benefits that way! Amazingly enough, there no reported severe side effects(BONUS!) but there some of the small nagging ones such as nausea, headache, diarrhea, etc; so use caution as with anything and test it out in small amounts first. Have you tried Frankincense already? Have great results? Let me know! Have a great week everyone! -SFH |
